Muncaster Self Catering Holiday Cottages
Newtown House, sleeping ten people in four bedrooms, boasts impressively high ceilings and many original Georgian features.
Just a mile and a half away, past a ruined Roman bath house, is the village of Ravenglass, a Roman port and favoured destination of smugglers.
An isolated beach cove at the end of the drive is the perfect place for a picnic and there are miles of country walks to be enjoyed direct from the door.
Newtown can also be booked with adjoining property Knott View, together sleeping up to 22.
The properties enjoy an extensive walled garden, perfect for barbecues, games and relaxing. Or how about trying your hand at the ancient pursuit of archery? For groups of four or more (min age 8 please note) your session can include tuition and on-going coaching, practice rounds, games and competitions – your own archery tournament? All on a date to suit you. Contact our partners Independent Adventure for more information.
Knott View is a great house for large families and groups, anniversaries, celebrations or just to get away from it all, sleeping up to twelve people in six bedrooms.
Situated away from it all on the Muncaster Estate, the coastal village of Ravenglass is less than a mile from Knott View. Muncaster Castle itself is about a mile from Newtown and Knott View in the other direction (if walking) or can be reached by driving back to Ravenglass then taking the main road south. The location usually benefits from better weather than the central lakes and is within easy reach of the Western Lakeland fells and mountains. The estuary at Ravenglass is less than a mile away and the whole area is great for miles of walks direct from the door or picnics in the surrounding countryside.
Herbert House, in the heart of the historic fishing village of Ravenglass and a mile from Muncaster Castle, is a period detached house sleeping up to ten in five bedrooms with the front beds enjoying views across the estuary to the Irish Sea. The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway (heritage narrow-gauge steam) is close by, as are the ruins of the Roman Bath House, and the Pennington Hotel and the Inn At Ravenglass are in the same street for real ales, good food and a warm welcome.
