Available weekdays 26th November – 14th December 2018
Celebrate a Victorian Christmas at Muncaster Castle and experience the life “below stairs” of Lord Muncaster’s staff.
While Lord & Lady Muncaster are out lunching, Mrs Gordon the housekeeper and Maggie the housemaid will sneak you into some of the “posh” rooms of the Castle, beautifully decorated for Christmas. We may even be able to sing some Christmas Carols around the magnificent Christmas tree.
Before heading “below stairs” we will appoint some new scullery maids and hall boys, with costumes to match.
There will be an opportunity to play with some Victorian toys and (for the juniors) you can guess the uses of some unusual household utensils.
Returning to Lord Muncaster’s dining room we finish off your visit with a small treat of Christmas shortbread with some amusements, Christmas carols, poems and jokes.
But be careful you do not run into the butler, Mr Craddock. What would he say if he saw scullery maids and hall boys in Lord Muncaster’s dining room?
- Please come prepared with some rehearsed Christmas carols and party pieces i.e. short poems recitals / jokes / riddles.
- Dress in your own Victorian attire if you wish – children and adults.
- We can arrange for Santa to arrive at the end of your visit.
This package for schools costs £6 per child, with the gardens, Hawk & Owl Centre and Meadowvole Maze open as normal for their added enjoyment. Included in the price is a Victorian Tour, guided around the castle by a servant from 1885 in period costume. The children will get a chance to dress up and experience a Victorian Christmas morning, opening up toys typical of the Victorian age. One adult/teacher for every ten children can attend for free, with additional adults charged at £6 per person.
Why not end the tour with a visit from Santa, who is available free of charge to say hello to the children (please indicate when booking if required)? This does not include a gift from Santa, please note, but you can supply your own if you wish the children to receive one.
We encourage the children to sing carols as they go around the castle so if there are any particular songs (up to four) that the children have been rehearsing for a carol service or Christmas concert etc then please let us know.
If you would like to take advantage of this special Christmas offer, please email or call us on 01229 717614 to check availability and for a booking form and we’ll be happy to help.
