Sausages set to go with a bang at Muncaster!

Muncaster Castle is busy gearing up to host the second Cumbria Life Sausage Festival.
The annual celebration of this great British banger will once more take place over the May Day Bank Holiday between 30 April and 02 May 2016.

The festival, organised in association with Cumbria Life, Taste the Lakes and the Cumberland Sausage Club, last year saw over 3,000 people flocking to the WesternLake District attraction during the weekend to applaud the great Cumbrian banger.
This year the festival will be bigger and better than ever with cookery demonstrations by a selection of top local chefs including Peter Sidwell, ITV’s Britain’s Best Bakery, Kevin Hillyer (aka Big Pan Man) head chef at the Westmorland Hotel at Tebay, Gary McClure, Made in Cumbria Chef and Jon Fell, head chef at the White Mare, Beckermet.

Your Favourite Butchers Cumberland Sausage Competition makes a welcome return with the public tasting on Saturday… will current title holder Gary McClure of Woodlands Free Range Meats keep his crown?

The Cumberland Sausage Eating Competition hosted by First Choice Meats is back on Sunday. This proved to be a bit of a hit in 2015, with local Ash Harrington from Workington taking the plaudits with a winning time of 1 min 47 secs! The 2015 entry fees went to Hospice at Home West Cumbria and this year go to CFM’s Cash for Kids Charity.

TV Chef Peter Sidwell is also raising funds for CFM’s Cash for Kids as he attempts to create the World’s Longest Sausage Sandwich on Monday, and will need lots of helping hands to help him create this record breaker!
Alongside all the foodie fun, top entertainers the Fairly Famous Family will present a cookery demonstration like no other…with their hilarious culinary send-up ‘Liver Cottage’ featuring Hugh Fearn and Lee Whittingstall.

New this year there’s also a craft market, with an array of gifts on offer from local artisan makers, including Qwirky Glass, Beady Bev Jewellery, Silent Forest

Andy Chafe, Muncaster Castle’s Marketing Manager, said: “The Cumberland Sausage Festival is the perfect showcase for local and regional produce and provides a great opportunity to bring it all together for people to see and taste a selection of what’s on offer. There has been considerable interest in this year’s event already making it bigger and better than last year. That said, we are happy to hear from any producers or artisan makers who are interested in attending as we have the option of adding additional areas to the festival space should they be required.”
