Muncaster makes a wonderful full day out for any group. Our gardens, Castle, Hawk & Owl Centre and Meadowvole Maze offer something for everyone. The breathtaking vista of the Western Lakeland fells and Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain) mean the views alone make the trip worthwhile. We recommend a minimum of 2½ hours at Muncaster but many groups find that they can spend up to five or more hours here quite happily. Remember to pack your camera.
As an alternative, we do recommend combining your visit to Muncaster with our neighbouring attraction the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway – narrow gauge heritage steam. We can offer a combined group rate; “Steam on the Wild Side”.
Though many groups do, you don’t have to visit both attractions on the same day so there are two great days out for one price.
May we remind you that the Castle itself is usually closed on Saturdays.
If you’re planning a winter visit, look at ‘Festive on the Wild Side‘ – just for groups. This is a combined Christmas experience for Castle and Ravenglass Railway, available weekdays from 26th November through to 14th December 2018. With Christmas castle tour and bird of prey display, lunch, steam train trip and mince pies and mulled wine included, it’s a full festive day out! See prices and more information.
Coming by coach
Please ask your driver to come in via the church gate entrance (ca 1/3 mile south of our main car park on the A595 and signed for coach, disabled and accommodation parking). There you will find reserved space for coaches. Upon arrival, you will be met by a Muncaster representative who will welcome your party, issue tickets and answer any questions you may have.
Note to coach drivers approaching from the south – the turning into the church gate entrance is on a bend near the top of a hill and is very tight so please approach slowly. For larger coaches travelling from the south, proceed past this entrance to our main car park and turn around there. Reapproach the entrance from the north.
