Enjoy a memorable day on board ‘The Statesman’ as you travel around the Cumbrian Coast Railway Line, probably the most stunningly beautiful scenic coastal line in England through an area steeped in maritime history with spectacular views of the Lake District Mountains and the wide panoramic expanse of Morecambe Bay to Ravenglass, where there is the opportunity to visit the beautiful Muncaster Castle Gardens, or, ride the legendary Ravenglass & Eskdale narrow gauge railway.
From your various departure points you will leave the main line at Carnforth, departing past the ‘Brief Encounter’ Refreshment Room made famous in the classic 1945 movie, after picking up speed, pass Silverdale and cross the first of the two spectacular viaducts over the River Kent at Arnside with stunning views across Morecambe Bay. Continuing through the Victorian resort of Grange-over-Sands and Ulverston. Continue across the Furness peninsula where the views of the Irish Sea and Lakeland Mountains are truly spectacular before arriving at the pretty coastal hamlet of Ravenglass around 12.40 for a break of up to four hours.
From Ravenglass, Stateman Rail have optional excursions at discounted prices which must be pre-booked at the same time as the main tour as availability is strictly limited.
The visit to Muncaster Castle Gardens & World Owl Centre: A road coach will take you on the short journey to the spectacular and imposing Muncaster Castle, dating from the 13th century with its dramatic backdrop of the glorious Lakeland Fells, time will be available to explore the beautiful Gardens & Owlery. (the Castle itself is closed on Saturdays). Adults: £8 Children: £5
The Visit to Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway: The delightful narrow gauge railway runs for 7 miles through
spectacular Lake District scenery to Eskdale, situated at the foot of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike and the train will be hauled by one of the little steam engines dating back to 1894. At the lines terminus there is an excellent cafe and the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the Fells with riverside walks. Adults: £8 Children: £5
