Muncaster offers extensive and exciting learning opportunities. With an historic castle situated in many acres of woodland, Himalayan gardens and the Hawk & Owl Centre, the opportunities to explore a variety of subjects, for children and young adults, in a stimulating environment are endless with many cross-curricular links.
Whether you plan to use our venue independently, or if you would like to participate in our Themed Study Tours (see the Key Stage/age group links) and walk in the footsteps of the scullery maid, see what the Romans left behind or hear exciting tales from the historic Pennington Family, we can assist with tailoring our offering to your needs so that you can take advantage of all the learning opportunities available here at Muncaster.
Themed Study Tours are available year-round, with the addition of our Victorian Christmas tour available from end November to mid December, for groups looking for a seasonal educational visit.
The gardens with their unique blend of native and exotic species in a wild woodland setting offer miles of paths, intriguing ponds full of life, lawned areas for play or picnic and peaceful corners even on busier days, all perfect for a wide variety of nature-based activities. There is an adventure playground to burn off excess energy and younger children will enjoy experiencing life as a tiny meadow vole in the Meadowvole Maze.
Depending on your time constraints, why not include seeing one of our scheduled Hawk & Owl Centre bird of prey displays in your visit? In the main season these are at 11.30 (World of Owls) and 2pm (Sky Hunters), lasting around 30 – 40 minutes and are included in your entry price. Both the bird displays and the Centre itself offer ample material and information for educational groups to work towards national curriculum targets as well as being a great day out for the kids; see Hawk & Owl Centre suggested study topics.
See ‘Prepare for your educational visit’ for more practical information about bringing your group to Muncaster plus for our booking forms.
