Themed Study Tours

General History Tour:   Learn how Muncaster Castle and the lives of the Pennington Family have changed over the past 800 years.

Victorian Castle Tour:   Visit Muncaster Castle in 1860 to see how the servants went about their work.  See original household items and guess what they were used for. Learn about the do’s and don’ts of being a servant.

Mystery & Adventure Tour:   Romance, kidnap, high seas, kings and even ghostly wanderings are just some of the stories you will hear about on this tour. Are you brave enough to hear them? All the stories are about the incredible people who lived here or were connected to Muncaster over the past centuries.

Roman Muncaster:   It is believed that the castle is built on Roman ruins.  Find out why this area was an important area to the Romans and see some authentic Roman artefacts.

Costumes through the Centuries:   Meet the Pennington ancestors and by looking at their portraits see how clothing styles changed throughout the centuries.  See examples dating back over 150 years old.

Muncaster’s Folklore and Fairytales:   Muncaster’s history is full of interesting and fascinating stories and people.  Hear the stories of the likes of Tom Fool, Lord Muncaster & the Crying Baby.

Art & Design:   Muncaster Castle, full of extraordinary carvings, leather wallcoverings & paintings, is perfect inspiration for you to create your own masterpiece.

Creative Writing:   Are you looking for a location full of history and atmosphere to help create that perfect story.  Let Muncaster Castle provide the inspiration.

  • Maximum group size 20 – 25 Students
  • Larger groups will be split into smaller groups for the tours
  • Tours are available between 10.00 am and 12.00 pm

Educational visits are competitively priced at £4.50 per student or accompanying adult/supervisor, with one adult place free for every 10 students. Themed study tours are £1 per person when booked as part of an educational visit.
