Teacher's Notes
How to find us
Muncaster is on the A595 one mile south of Ravenglass. Unless advance arrangements have been made with us to enter at the Main Gate, please ask your driver to park in the Coach park. If travelling from the south, this entrance is on the left, if coming from the north, go past the Main Gate car park and take the next turning on the right. A guide will meet the coach at your specified time.
Facilities
There is a free car and coach park for school visits. The toilets are in the Stable Yard, there are also disabled facilities available. There is a well equipped children's playground and there are a number of picnic sites. The Wildfowl Pond is home to native and exotic water birds. Undercover eating areas and the indoor education suite allow you to be independent of the weather. The Carriage House Gift shop and Owl Shop offer a wide variety of affordable mementoes.
Modifying Programmes
All programmes can be modified to meet the needs of your individual school and the age and abilities of your pupils. Parts of different programmes can be combined or adapted accordingly. At Muncaster we are open to new ideas and want to work with schools to provide a memorable and valuable learning experience for your pupils.
Special Education Needs
We welcome pupils with special educational needs. Please let us know of any additional help we can provide.
Wet Weather Alternatives
In the event of unfavourable weather conditions the day's activities will be rearranged in consultation with yourself, the education suite will provide a central focus for your visit.
Preliminary Visits
We will be pleased to arrange a preliminary visit for teachers. Members of staff will be available to discuss details of planned visits. We can also provide teacher notes and pupil sheets before your visit.
Booking
We are especially busy in the summer term and aim to have only two to three schools on site at a time. Please telephone to check availability and request a booking form.
Numbers
We do not set a maximum number of pupils as this depends on which programmes you are following. However groups between twenty (a small class) and sixty (two classes) work best. Larger schools often spread out pupil numbers over successive dates. You will only be charged for the actual number of pupils you bring on the day. We allow one free adult for every 10 paying children.
Payment
Payment can be made on the day or we can send an invoice after your visit if you require.
