We are turning the clock back to the medieval era to celebrate 800 years of the Pennington’s at the Castle.
Family fun and festivities all weekend.
The Red Wyvern Society will be re-enacting life at the Castle in 1453 at the end of the 100 years' war with France. Henry VI is King of England and Sir John Pennington is master of Muncaster Castle.
The English court is dividing into factions with some supporting the King and his government headed by the Duke of Somerset and others supporting the opposing faction headed by the Duke of York. At the same time the long-standing feud between the Neville and Percy families in the North of England is intensifying with other families being drawn into the recurrent raids and skirmishes that are perpetrated by both sides. Cumberland and Westmorland have become especially lawless. Everyday life at Muncaster Castle is being interrupted by the soldiers of Lord Egremont and Lord Clifford who are demanding that Sir John Pennington and his men join them to fight the Neville family......
