Well – we sat in the dark trying to make some form of contact with any spirits that may have been lingering around. At first we were all joking and not taking things very seriously, and then a couple of us started to experience the sensation of being touched. At one point one of us was poked in the leg whilst sitting on a chair on the right hand side of the fire place which was extremely unnerving. Then everyone but one person fell asleep – big mistake! Everyone was alarmed when the same person who had previously been poked (and managed to stay awake) was touched twice on the right hand side of the body. There was also an extreme drop in temperature on this side – not very pleasant to experience in an already freezing room. Noises were heard many times, the bathroom light which we had left on somehow managed to turn itself off – at this point we decided to place a tape in the hallway. Upon listening to a playback of the tape we clearly heard – albeit faint – singing….
December 7th 2007
All scared but excited, very cold around bed. Two people experienced whispering, huge rattling noise at about 2.00am and landing extremely loud.
Maria and Julie both felt extremely hot at the same time approximately 4am and felt claustrophobic with difficulty breathing and felt sick. When sat on bed it was vibrating strangely, again at midnight.
Wonderful experience.

It was great, out in the dark to begin with, that really set the scene for what happened in the Tapestry room… My experience really made me believe that there is something on the other side. All I could hear was crying and opened my eyes into the dark room and saw a glowing in the corner, only for about 4-5 seconds, before the girls woke up crying and screaming. Lights were turned on and the glowing stopped. Really great experience.

Stayed in Tapestry room overnight, had a great time. Felt something touch head, very cold at times, sweet smells every so often and noises. 2 strange pictures on camera.
Also seen a fine mist/cloud looking from top of fireplace heading towards bed.

Scientific Vigil with Dr. Braithwaite
Following a wonderful walk through the bluebells,
during which we spotted a couple of deer, we started our vigil at
the castle. Overall, it was a quiet evening but there was one unexplained
occurrence when 2 of our group heard noises outside the Tapestry
Room door and it was confirmed by a fellow vigilee on the other
side who also heard the noises that no-one was there. We look forward
to retuning at Halloween.
We were in the red gallery where we witnessed lots
of banging which interfered with the equipment, the third set of
curtains opposite the Bishop’s bedroom moved and also the
tapestry, when investigated there were no draughts.
On moving location to the tapestry room we witnessed the door rattling,
footsteps outside accompanied by muttering and rustling of skirts
was heard by the observer sitting by the portrait of Tom Fool -
there was no one else about.

We never actually saw any ghosts but we experienced
things such as lights, tapping on the head, groaning and Kelly felt
a presence of someone at the side of her when we turned all the
lights out. She could hear a groan or someone breathing in her ear.
We cold all smell a burning/weird smell which kept coming and going.
It was a really enjoyable night that we all will remember because
it was so freezing in the room.

A Friday 13th night stopover for us-thoroughly enjoyed
Peters pre-ghost sit tour-thank you! As far as the Tapestry room
goes, there is definitely something eerie at the bed end of the
room. Whilst lying on the bed I experienced a sudden coldness, my
right arm felt very heavy to the extent that I found it difficult
to move, and had chills right through-but only when lying on the
left hand side of the bed( as you look at it from the foot end.)
My hands very rarely get cold, but I was icy to the touch and felt
cold right through.

Halloween 2005
"Spent a brief time in the Tapestry Room at 12.48am the door
handle moved back and forth a couple of times, we waited for someone
to come in, no-one did. We checked with people on the landing and
verified that no one had turned the handle. Also experienced strange
feeling in the Bishop's dressing room."
October 2005
"We were all very hot in the tapesty room, although there was
a cool breeze blowing down the fire place. We brought a lap top
to watch DVDs on, However when we came to watch a film there was
a figure on the screen with its hands on its knees then the film
and the laptop just stopped working. One of us kept experiencing
chest pain. We heard a well spoken whispering voice say hello about
2.30am. Around the bed we all saw bright orbs which we could follow
with the camera. At 6am the door knob was rattling."April 2005
"Sitting in the Tapestry Room the door suddenly rattled for
the second time that night at 2.26am. It was as though the handle
was rattled as some one was trying to get in. Whilst I was sitting
on the bed a feeling of nausea came over me. When I was sitting
in the Great Hall I felt someone gently move my hair on the back
of my head."
April 2005
"Lots of camera failures, including one that started to work
as soon as we left the castle. Orbs caught on cameras that were
working, and a mist over the bed. Crying heard twice by two members
of the team. When we turned the lights off flashes of light were
seen by the door and around the fire place. The dictaphone picked
up a noise that sounded very like a heart beat - non of us heard
it while it was taping. A strange wheezing noise was heard near
the window end of the room, rather like someone struggling for breath.
This was heard by everybody, but not picked up by the Dictaphone

"I had a strange sensation of my hair being touched and played
with. Also an odd smell was following me around. At 4am listened
to tape recorder - some strange tapping and maybe footsteps! Felt
my knee being tickled around 6am."
Scientific Vigil with Dr. Jason Braithwaite
Halloween 2004
"A well organised vigil - which helped put a scientific slant
on "ghost hunting". We carried out tests with equipment
supplied by Dr. Braithwaite - many unexplained readings. Only one
sighting in the King's Bedroom - on the wardrboe - which can only
be described as a moving shadow, which could not be recreated. The
whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable and educational. The grounds
and facilities were spot on."

the scientific experiment again, this was a good training session
for me and a good starting point. Liked the structure - I will be
back! Enlightening, informative and worth anybody's time."

"All night the temperature constantly changed from normal to
icy cold. Cold waves seemed to move around the room and brush passed
us. A few bumps and scratches were heard. We heard flute type music
or humming. One member also felt someone pat her on the leg."

"A definite presence could be felt in the room. The temperature
would suddenly drop as if an ice cold presence had entered the room
. Some of the group felt cold down one side. Could hear scraping
noises coming from fire and a noise like someone playing a flute."

"Settled in the tapestry room at about 11pm, one of our group
was in the bed and she began to feel chest pains - a hot feeling
but very cold hands. When she got out of the bed she felt immediately
better."

"I had a very weird experience in the four poster bed. I felt
that my body was touched and for a split second I was unable to
make a noise! and I couldn't control a flow of tears for about 45
minutes afterwards"

night! We heard what sounded very much like a baby cry then suddenly
stop! That was enough for us to leave the Tapestry Room and stay
in the dressing room all night. An absolutely unforgettable evening,
out of this world!"

The tour of the castle was superb but the night in the Tapestry
Room was something else. The cold blasts of air, someone standing
on our feet and last but not least the orbs. What an excellent night

changes. Heard sounds of laughing, crying ,singing. Three of us
felt someone standing on our feet. Overall a fun night, thanks."

We were very impressed with the amount of time and effort that you
put into the visit, showing us around the castle and grounds. We

of our party being "kicked" out of bed by a ghost!

"Excellent tour, definitely set the mood for the evening. Approximately
1am high pitched growl/whine heard near the window, heard again
around 1.40am, one of our group felt someone grab the back of his
neck. At 2.40am noise heard again. Near 4am a baby was heard crying.
Vey peculiar and strange!! But definitely there!"

"We found our camcorder had a tendency to switch itself on
and off when it felt like it. Scratching noises were heard initially
by one of us but around 4am several of us heard this together. The
temperature changed throughout the night, everyone felt very cold
or very hot. I felt anxious at certain points as if something/someone
wanted my attention.
All in all a fantastic night!"

number of experiences, the temperature rose up and down all night
and we felt cold breezes on our faces. My camcorder was switched
off of its own accord during the tour. We have had a very enjoyable

"The only thing I heard - one other person heard it also -
was children whispering or giggling quietly. We also heard the sound
of something dragging. The dragging sound was continous for about
an hour or so around 3am."
