This
beachfront hotel, a 16th Century Coaching Inn in the village of
Ravenglass, is an exciting new addition to the many attractions
of Muncaster and Ravenglass.
THE HOTEL
The Pennington offers 21 guest rooms furnished to a high standard
with en-suite bathrooms, flat screen TVs and internet access.
A selection of dining facilities are available, including a 50 cover
restaurant and fully licensed bar.
THE AREA
The hotel is just one mile from Muncaster
Castle. Nearby, the narrow-gauge Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway,
travels through seven miles of beautiful countryside, ending its
journey at the recently enhanced “Dalegarth-For-Boot”
station in Eskdale at the foot of Scafell Pike, England’s
highest mountain. http://www.ravenglass-railway.co.uk/.
The Pennington is easily accessible
by road and rail, with ample free parking. Ravenglass harbour, little
changed since Roman times, offers sheltered moorings for visiting
yachts. Ravenglass is recognised as the start (or finish!) of the
“Hadrianic Frontier” and offers great opportunities
to walkers and cyclists alike, as well as anyone with a love of
the countryside. Walls Bath House boasts the highest free-standing
Roman Walls in the North of England, and is a half-mile walk from
the Pennington Hotel. Wasdale home of England’s smallest Church
and Wastwater, England’s deepest Lake is a short drive away.
North of Ravenglass lies Gosforth,
a village with Viking connections – visit the Church to see
an impressively tall Viking cross. In Egremont, the nearest town,
you can see interesting ruins of a medieval castle, and a little
further north lies Whitehaven, a Georgian town with a bustling harbour
and marina which are well worth a visit.
