Muncaster Castle are working with Cumbria Chamber of Commerce to host this unique new event for Cumbria. Networking, teamwork and organised activities what is not to love!

Who is this event targeted at?

This is the second year of this event at Muncaster Castle. In 2025 we had over 10 teams signed up who are linked in that they are Cumbrian businesses who are innovators. They varied in sectors with the nuclear, education and professional services sectors all included. The seniority of people who attended varied with CEOs to apprentices with the primary focus being team bonding and networking across Cumbrian businesses.

Getting To Muncaster?

Car – Please drive to our Church Entrance (Sat Nav – CA18 1RQ) which is closer to the Castle than the main car park. There will be signage from the parking to the start of the event which is in the Castle Stable Yard. Parking is free as part of this event.

Train – Muncaster is arranging pick ups and drop offs from the train station – ‘Ravenglass for Eskdale’ (1 mile from Muncaster). This is on the Barrow-Carlisle route and if you get car sick is the best. Please email us on info@muncaster.co.uk if you or a team member is coming by train and what time so we can meet you and be ready for pick up or drop off.

What to Bring?

The activities will be both in the castle, the gardens and other buildings so ensure you bring a waterproof and warm clothing incase the weather turns. We also recommend good footwear for the activities and clothing that you don’t mind getting messy. There will be no water activities or swimming involved. We are also encouraging Team members to wear the same colour, but this is not essential. We also encourage you to think of a catchy team name for your business.

We will have a location to leave your bags and belongings if you would like to bring extra clothing.

Accommodation?

Coachman’s Quarters – we have several bedrooms onsite, some in the castle and others above the stable yard. The rooms are nice, ensuite and functional but not luxury. Please contact Hannah for more information. Pictures can be seen here - http://penningtonhotels.com/coachmansquarters

Glamping Tents – we offer glamping tents in the garden if you would like to have a camping option. Please contact Hannah for more information.

Camping – we have a campsite in the gardens a 10 min walk from the Stable Yard which is free to camp at as part of this event if any of your team would like this. There are showers and a long drop toilet. Please contact Hannah for more information.

What are the Challenges?

In the morning teams will rotate around the different Muncaster departments – Bird Team, Catering Team, Castle Team, Weapons Hall Team and Gardening Team doing various ‘crystal maze’ like challenges along the way. This will allow excellent team building, be something a bit different and be a lot of fun. Points will be allocated for teams based on their performance.

In the afternoon teams will be competing on the front lawn of the castle in a ‘games style’ event. This will test your business skills of communication, teamwork, negotiating and networking capabilities in a different context. The activities have been designed so to encourage networking between the teams while also providing many opportunities to be competitive and gather points that could allow your team to win the coveted trophy.

What is the food and drink?

Lunch – This will be buffet style but will include options such as home made pizza and other assortments including sandwiches and if you are lucky Muncaster’s infamous scotch eggs.

Dinner – This will be hog roast and vegetarian alternatives.

Drinks– during the day teas and coffees will be provided. For the evening event alcohol and soft drinks are not included but will be available from the bar.

Sponsorship for a good cause?

The purpose of this event is to have fun and any money made from the event fees will be reinvested to help protect and enhance the heritage of Muncaster Castle. That being said we support sponsorship for charities affiliated with the companies involved.
