Muncaster Castle makes a wonderful full day out for any group. Our gardens, Castle, Hawk and Owl Centre and Meadowvole Maze offer something for everyone. The breath-taking vista of the Western Lakeland fells and Scafell Pike (England’s highest mountain) mean the views alone make the trip worthwhile. We recommend a minimum of 2½ hours at Muncaster but many groups find that they can spend up to five or more hours here quite happily. Remember to pack your camera!

Artists and Aristocrats
Each of our paintings has a story behind it. Let us take you on a journey to meet the artists and their sitters on this 40-minute tour through the State Rooms of Muncaster Castle.
The Tour Cost is: £5 per person in addition to the group entry price.

Archaeology Walk
Travel through Time from prehistoric to medieval times in the landscape of Muncaster Castle. Every generation leaves their mark on the landscape. Come with us on a journey of discovery. Strong footwear is advised as the tour takes us across areas of uneven ground. The walk will take approximately 1 hour.
The Tour Cost is: £5 per person in addition to the group entry price.

Enjoy a full day out with Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass Railway.

A return steam departure from Ravenglass combined with a visit to us at Muncaster Castle, Gardens and Hawk & Owl Centre. After your train journey you will arrive at Muncaster in time to choose between having a welcome in the castle from one of our Curators or enjoy our Sky Hunters flying display followed by a self-guided tour around the castle. You will also have time for refreshments and/or enjoy the extensive gardens and visit the Hawk & Owl Centre.

Prices for 2023: £25 adult, £16.00 child (3 – 15 years old). Free for children under 3.

For that truly personal touch, we can arrange private tours of the Castle, Gardens or Hawk & Owl Centre for groups, lasting a minimum of one hour.

To make your day even more special, you could consider dining in style either in the Castle or the Old Laundry function room.

Please ask your driver to the come in via the church gate entrance which is ⅓ mile south of our main car park on the A595 and sign posted for coach, disabled and accommodation parking. (Sat Nav’s use CA18 1RQ). Coach parking is free and your coach driver will be given a voucher to use in our café.

Upon arrival, you will be met by a member of Muncaster staff who will welcome your party, issue tickets and answer any question you may have.

Note to coach drivers arriving from the south – the turning into the church gate entrance is on a bend near the top of a hill and is very tight so please approach slowly. For larger coaches travelling from the south, proceed past this entrance to our main car park and turn around there. Reapproach the entrance from the north.
